I was introduced to the revolutionary service actions of the Wednesday Rotary Club in Nacogdoches. The meeting was fast paced with many projects reported on that are occurring concurrently involving bike, blood, and book service projects. I was not aware of the broad scope of projects these servers are completing in our Nacogdoches community. Many members, and some guests present, had given blood before the meeting.
The new literary project to take books into businesses in quaint bookcase benches stocked with free books for children to enjoy while waiting or to take home to keep, cherish, and read repeatedly. This is an ingenious addition to their Mobile Summer Library that provides free books to students at parks where they play. This is a proactive service project with great vision for the present and the future regarding student literacy and increasing reading through book placement into homes.
The remainder of the program was educational and patriotic. The food was delicious, but the fellowship surpassed this with introductions to many new friends. I look forward to another opportunity to learn more about the “hands on” service of this valuable Nacogdoches Rotary Club. Thank you!
